The Saltdogs are proud to announce that RHP PJ Zocchi had his contract purchased by the Los Angeles Dodgers, marking the return to affiliated ball for the now ex-Lincoln closer.

Zocchi recorded 21 saves in 2012 - one shy of matching a franchise record - in a club-high 36 appearances, while posting a 1.95 ERA. He fanned 41 batters in 37 innings of work.

The Bronx, N.Y. native was originally selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 2007 MLB draft. He pitched one season in the Tribe's organization as a starting pitcher before being converted to a reliever in the Frontier League.

In his first season as a closer - for Oakland County in 2010 - Zocchi equaled the Frontier League record with 26 saves to earn a spot on the All-Star team.

The 26-year old pitched collegiately at Clemson University where he served as team captain for two seasons and helped lead the Tigers to the 2006 College World Series.

Zocchi is now the ninth Saltdogs player to have his contract purchased by an MLB organization since the start of the 2011 campaign, the most in the American Association.
