BLOWOUT GIVES LINCOLN 3RD WIN IN A ROW

The Lincoln Saltdogs recorded their second blowout win in as many nights on Saturday, hammering Pensacola 13-5 at Haymarket Park.  Lincoln improves to 4-5 on the season, and now has a three-game winning streak.

The Saltdogs actually fell behind 2-0 in the first inning, but rallied to take the lead for good in the bottom half of the frame.  A pair of walks set up an RBI single by Eduardo Rios, and Felix Jose followed with a mammoth three-run home run off the scoreboard in right-center field, giving the Dogs a 4-2 lead.  Lincoln tacked on another run in the second inning, then exploded for five more runs in the fourth to put the game away.  Dustin Yount had a two-run double in that decisive frame, increasing his league-leading RBI total to 14.  The Pelicans also helped out the Dogs by committing three errors in the frame.

Leadoff hitter Jonny Kaplan sparked Lincoln all night long, going 4-for-5 with an RBI, two stolen bases and three runs scored.  Jose ended the night 3-for-5 with his homer and three RBI, and Tony Contreras went 2-for-6 with two RBI and a run scored.  Every Saltdog in the starting lineup had at least one hit, as Lincoln reached double digits in hits for the fourth game in a row.

Zach Cline (1-1) settled down after giving up two first-inning runs, allowing just two more baserunners until running into trouble in the sixth inning.  Overall, he allowed four runs (three earned) in his six innings of work, walking three and striking out one.  Pensacola starter Joe Orgovan (1-1) had an awful night, allowing ten runs (eight earned) on ten hits in 3 1/3 innings pitched, striking out none and walking four.  The Pelicans committed five errors in the contest, increasing their league-leading total to 25 miscues in their first nine games as they fall to 4-5.

The two teams play the finale of their three-game series Sunday afternoon at 2:05, at Haymarket Park.  R.D. Spiehs gets the start for the Saltdogs, while Pensacola will send Cory Walters to the mound.

The Saltdogs’ first homestand of the season runs now through May 25th, with games against Pensacola, Sioux Falls and Wichita.   For team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
