The Lincoln Saltdogs came up flat in the series finale against Shreveport, losing 3-1 in ten innings at Haymarket Park.  The Sports took two out of three from Lincoln in the series, and the Saltdogs finished the homestand with a 3-3 mark.

The game was decided in the top of the tenth with one out, after Ron Fenwick drew a walk against Lincoln reliever Jason Jarvis (0-2).  Chad Gambill drove a 1-2 pitch over the right field wall for a two-run home run, giving Shreveport the lead for good.  Matt Clayman and Trey Poland combined to retire the Saltdogs in order in the bottom of the tenth, with Poland earning his fifth save.

Both starting pitchers received no-decisions for outstanding efforts on the mound.  Lincoln’s Ryan Trytten allowed just one run in seven innings, walking three and striking out seven.  Shreveport’s Russell Savickas was even better, allowing one run on three hits in eight innings, walking one and striking out six.  The Sports’ Aaron Cunningham (2-1) picked up the win after pitching a perfect ninth.

The Saltdogs did hold the early lead, when Mario Delgado cracked a solo homer to left in the second inning.  Shreveport tied the game in the fourth, on an RBI single by Richard Quihuis-Bell.  Lincoln avoided further damage in that frame when Ross McCoy and Anthony Contreras combined to gun down Gambill at the plate.

Delgado finished the night 2-for-4 with the home run.  Contreras went 0-for-3 with a walk, ending his hitting streak at 19 games.  Jonny Kaplan went 0-for-2 before being ejected in the third inning, marking the first time all season he did not reach base safely.

The Saltdogs take Monday off, before beginning a three-game series in Wichita Tuesday night at 7:05.  Josh Kauten is scheduled to make the start for Lincoln.
