Lincoln managed just five hits and committed a season-high six errors, the second-most in team history, in dropping a 9-6 decision at Fort Worth on Saturday night. The Dogs are now 7-2 on the season, while the Cats end a three-game losing streak to improve to 5-4.

Despite the sloppy play and quiet night at the plate, the Saltdogs were in the game until the end. The Cats pitching staff issued 10 walks on the night, including two in the eighth inning when Lincoln mounted its final rally. Trailing 6-4 heading into their next-to-last at bat, the Dogs got a pair of walks and a hit batter to load the bases with no outs. After Cory Harris reached on an error that scored a run, Jose Torres singled to right to tie the game at 6-6. The bases remained loaded with no outs for Bryan Warner who flew out to center but not deep enough to score a run. Pichi Balet came to the plate next but his at bat ended when he was called out on an appeal of a check swing on strike three. Balet argued and was ejected as was Lincoln manager Tim Johnson. Josh Patton then popped out to third leaving the bases full.

In the bottom of the eighth, Fort Worth answered back and regained the lead off Saltdog reliever Clay Tichota, who hit the first batter he faced and walked the next two to load the bases with no outs. Terence Green belted a double scoring two runs and Carlos Adolfo followed with a sacrifice fly to center to finish the scoring and even the series at a game apiece.

The series and Lincoln’s 10-game season-opening road trip come to an end on Sunday afternoon. Start time for the finale is set for 1 p.m. at LaGrave Field in Fort Worth. RHP Jeff Blitstein (2-0, 0.00) will start for the Saltdogs.
