Biography: Hawke came to Lincoln with MVP credentials and did not disappoint, winning the Saltdogs’ Player of the Year award in 2009. The big first baseman totaled a dozen home runs and 61 RBI, leading the Lincoln offense all season long. Phil, whose full name is Matthew Phillip Hawke, was named the Most Valuable Player and the “Star of Stars” in the Frontier League in 2008, leading Windy City to a second consecutive championship. Hawke has a very good eye for the strike zone, walking nearly as many times as he has struck out in his career. He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in round 29 of the 2005 draft, after completing a four-year career at Louisiana-Lafayette. Phil spent two years in the Rangers’ system before moving to the indy ranks in 2007. |
